It was a successful end Sunday to the Children's Hunter 14 and Under division at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising for barn buddies Kathryn Eudy and Lucie Oken at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
Thirteen-year-old Kathryn, of Charlotte, N.C. captured the blue ribbon for the first trip over fences and completed the division as Grand Champion. Twelve-year-old Lucie Oken, also of Charlotte, took the blue for the second trip over fences. Both girls ride together with Robbie Hunt and Hunters Lane Farm in Monroe, N.C. Kathryn was aboard the eight-year-old bay gelding Executive Decision owned by Sandra Thomas of Aiken, S.C. It was the first Champion ribbon for the two of them together. "He was very relaxed today," Kathryn said. "I've only been riding him for six months. It seems like I am getting to know him better." Lucie, riding the five-year-old black mare, GG In Style, owned by Robbie Hunt, said: "I'm excited because we didn't do very well yesterday and I'm glad that we improved. She is a really sweet horse. I love her." (Note to readers: The editor apologizes for the typo in Saturday's hunter news release. He really does know how to spell conformation but obviously not well enough to catch the typo. Many thanks for all the emails. We appreciate them whether they're brickbats or bouquets.)
