Alexa Adelson & Charlie Brown win in Children's Medal

Alexa Adelson and Charlie Brown had their first big win Saturday in the Taylor Harris Insurance Service Children's Medal at the CN Winter Equestrian Festival presented by Zimmerman Advertising.

Alexa, 15, from Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y. and her seven-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, Charlie Brown, led the group of four back in to test with the high score of 86. Her test proved to be the best, keeping her in the first place. Alexa and Charlie Brown train with Simonetta Meisels also from Briar Cliff Manor, NY. The pair have been competing together since the end of the summer.

"I haven't shown him that much," Alexa said. "This is a really big win for us. We did well last weekend but this is the real thing. I'm very excited. He really turned it on out there and I'm proud of him. I'm very happy to be on him and that we found each other and I feel very lucky to be here in Florida."

Second place with a score of 82 was awarded to Emma Roberts,14, of Houston, Tex. and the 10-year-old grey gelding, Skyy owned by Sterling Equestrian of Chicago, Ill. They were assisted by trainer Frank Madden from Oyster Bay, NY.

The final two of the four riders to come back to test were both students of Geoff Teall from Wellington. Kelley Levine,15, of Coral Springs, Fla and the 14-year-old chestnut gelding, Pacific D, with a score of 80, and Jennifer Dorfman, 15, Brooklyn, N.Y. and her mount, Duke, a six-year-old bay gelding with a score of 79.
